You may use as your defense that you do not own nor were you caring for or responsbible for the dog at any time. If the dog lives in premises you own or rent, though, that defense will fail most likely.

It's not only the owner who could get a dog-at-large ticket. Anyone caring for the dog is at risk. So, if someone was walking their neighbor's dog, and let the dog off leash in the wrong area, that person could be stuck with the ticket even though they weren't the owner. On the other hand, simply living in the same house as the dog's owner isn't enough to stick you with the ticket. You should really get an attorney to help you determine your rights and the best defense. Troy Pickard www.portlanddefender.com
