British mother American father-child born in US can it claim dual citizenship?

I am a British national due to be married to my American boyfriend in April. We are also expecting our first child in September. If we have the baby in America I am keen for it to have dual citizenship- both American and British. Is this possible under American law?

If the child is born in the U.S. then it will be a U.S. citizen. U.S. law recognizes that someone may hold dual citizenship. British law will most likely recognize the child as a U.K. citizen based on parentage, but you should check with the British consulate for details on this as well as how to apply for a U.K. passport for the child.

I agree with the above answer. U.S. law allows for dual citizenship. The child is a U.S. Citizen due to its birth on U.S. soil, so if the U.K. recognizes the child as a UK Citizen and allows for dual citizenship, which I think it does - but am not sure, then Yes. Andre Olivie, Esq.
