I missed the deadline to pay a speeding ticket in Texas. How do I proceed?

I recently moved from Austin to LA, while driving across the state I received a ticket for speeding (105 in an 80mph zone, maximum fine, around $300). Obviously I did not appear in court - this past Monday 1/26 was the deadline. I had intended to pay it via mail, but forgot. What do I do now? I am a new driver and totally at a loss here, any help is greatly appreciated!

First, let me state that I am a Traffic Ticket Attorney in Texas. I strongly encourage you to ask an attorney in the jurisdiction were the case is pending. If your case has gone to warrant, I DO NOT SUGGEST YOU JUST PAY IT. Paying a ticket is a plea of guilty and it will go on yur driving record. I suggest you retain an attorney to post a bond on the case. The attorney can then get the warrant lifted, appear in court for you and work out the best deal possible. Every traffic case has a minimum and maxiimum penalty. The reason is that every fact situation is different. It goes without saying that some cases are just worse then others even if the technical charge is the same. For example: two different drivers are each charged with running a stop sign at the same intersection. Each face the same range of punishment. Let's say, driver one came to almost a complete stop, looked both ways, it was clear and he proceeded. Technically, he ran the stop sign. Let's say driver #2 was driving and blew right through the stop sighn without even attempting to slow down. Who do you think desrves the high penalty although they both fall under the same range? Only an attorney that practices traffic tickets in the court where your case will be heard can answer what the probable outcome will be, however, there is almost always room to negotiate. If you have found my answer helpful, please give me a thumbs up.

DO NOT just pay the ticket. First, you should contact a bonding company or a lawyer to post a bond if a Failure to Appear warrant has been issued. You should hire a traffic ticket lawyer who is generally much cheaper than paying the ticket. Many times you can take defensive driving or get deferred adjudication probation and not have a conviction. Convictions on moving violations can impact your auto insurance and your license to drive.

You may want to contact the court and pay the fine as soon as possible before it turns into something worse. If the court clerk accepts the fine, then all is well. If not, then they will notify you of what they want you to do next. Good luck.

Contact the court immediately and explain to them how you simply forgot about it. Your going to almost have to pay the fine and a late fee. But, you want to get this taken care of immediately before the default results in a suspension being placed upon your license. Once that takes place the reinstatements fees for your license are going to make the original fine and late fees look like chump change.
