It all depends on your circumstances. I cannot hurt to get a consulation with an attorney. You may be able to get a free consultation or for a small fee.

You are almost always better off having your own attorney since your attorney will be focused on your needs first and foremost. Although the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunity is charged with investigating and pursuing claims of discrimination, the Commission faces a huge caseload burden and a shrinking staff due to the State of Connecticut's hiring freeze and possible budget cuts. Often times, experienced employment lawyers can also push your case forward more quickly since your case is their focus.

I always recommend having an attorney. Having worked at a government agency, I can tell you that the complaints and workload are way to much for the staff and it really hurts your chances of getting a good result. There is just too much work and the government budgets are not high enough.
