Difference between Criminal speeding vs reckless driving vs traffic infraction

I have never heard of criminal speeding before...I was charged with criminal speeding (95 in 70) Sampson County/Clinton, NC. I have been putting it off and off in order to speak with counsel because the judge made it seem more serious than just a regular traffic violation/speeding ticket like I have received in the past. My court date is today, in a few hours, and I really don't know what to expect or how to lower or get it reduced or possibly use my PFJ. I had reached out several times to see if I can speak with a defense attorney court appointment but I get a wall every time I contacted the courthouse/clerk of court. I really don't know what to do and I'm running out of time! We really have no money, our financial situation is horrible and has been for the last 4 years. I can't afford it to negatively punish me in any way, shape, or form! I am a nurse and it's impossible right now for me to get a job and i'm ubering/lyfting to help try to get by - which it's not really doing that for us. Our credit is shot because our house is going in foreclosure all of our money reserves are tapped out! I don't want to go to jail and I can't afford to have my license suspended! PLEASE HELP ME!!

Unfortunately, there is little we can do on here. Whenever you speed 15 or more over the speed limit when it is 60 or more, it is treated as a misdemeanor instead of a "typical" speeding ticket. You really need counsel to assist you if you want the best outcome. Unfortunately for many charges court appointed counsel is not available. You will be surprised at how cost effective good traffic counsel can be.

If you ask for a ‘PFJ” you will get a funny lol from both judge and prosecutor because they will feel you really should have hired a lawyer. The term is PJC, it’s completely discretionary and at 95/70, chances are it will not be granted. You will (but I hope not) have your license suspended for a year as a result of this conviction . Only way you would be able to drive during that year would be hire a lawyer and have a DMV hearing ( which would be held in Durham County where you live.) Good luck.
