How can I get help from an attorney ?

I’m in desperate need of help with a custody case I was summoned to. My daughter’s father is taking me to court for full custody of our daughter and wants me to pay him child support. We have joint custody and she has lived with me the entire time. Now he has decided to have something to do with her and he’s making false allegations against me. She is 15 and doesn’t want to live with him. What can I do? I don’t have an attorney and I don’t have the money to get one but I’m afraid to go to court without one and we have to be in court in 6 days. I’ve been at my job for over 4 years now and never missed a day until now (the day of court). I’m very upset and feel as if I’m being run over by him. Please I need advice, help, anything.

You can see if there are any low bono or pro bono lawyers in your area. Contact your State and Local Bar Associations to get any names of lawyers who work at a discount. Otherwise, you have to do this yourself' In most states the court does have authority to award attorney fees if appropriate and you're unable to retain a lawyer with your finances.
