Assuming he is convicted for the Alabama ticket they will report it to Illinois (Secretary of State) and if it shows up before supervision is concluded it will be a violation of terms of supervision which can then be terminated and a fine imposed, plus it goes against his driver's record here.
When there is a violation of supervision, the supervision can be revoked, meaning he would be facing the original consequences. He should speak with the attorney who handled his DUI. If he doesn't have an attorney, he should consider getting a free consultation with a traffic defense attorney to discuss this. If you need a referral, feel free to call. 1-800-517-1614.
Because your boyfriend lives in Illinois, you both have to decide how he's going to handle the Alabama citation. If he just sends the fine in by mail, a report of the out-of-state conviction will be sent to the Illinois Secretary of State. When you are over 21, you can have two traffic convictions on your record in a 12-month period, but a third will suspend your license for a period determined by Jesse White's office. If he's under 21 years old, he can only have 1 traffic conviction in a 24-month period, and a second one will suspend his license for a period, once again, at the discretion of the Secretary of State. Although it is possible that the supervision for the DUI can be violated, it is unlikely that a prosecutor will bother filing a violation so long as the out-of-state ticket is for a petty offense and not a misdemeanor speeding (Aggravated Speeding) ticket. Most courts in Illinois will not be too disturbed by a petty offense while on Supervision - however (in DuPage for instance) the judge will often ask the person at the date of their termination whether they received any traffic tickets while on Court Supervision.

If convicted on the Alabama ticket, it will be reported to Illinois. If the prosecutor files a Petition to Revoke the supervision on the DUI, that can result in a conviction for the DUI and a mandatory minimum one-year revocation of his driver's license. He should consult an attorney immediately for the best advice on how to handle the situation.
