I have gotten the newspaper to correct some of their statements on their website and admit that the title was misleading...because of this story I was told and have it in writing from one employer that I would not be hired... I've had several interviews and feel I have not gotten the positions because of this. I'm looking for an attorney in Memphis. I have copies of the original article and I have printed a copy of the correction. I am no a public official, a private citizen who has been greatly affected by this story and have several email corresponce with the reporter who wrote the story and the editor of the newspaper. We only have one large newspaper in our city... the Commercial Appeal... my complaint is against them...

It appears as though you need a personal injury attorney. Slander, libel, and defamation of character are possible causes of action, along with portrayal in a false light, invasion of privacy, and intrusion on your seclusion. You would have the burden of proving that they communicated falsely about you to third persons causing you harm. The standard of proof would be by a preponderance of the evidence. Libel is publishing in print, which includes pictures, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his or her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others.
