I was renting from someone I knew in the pass; however we never had a relationship. Even though he made several passes at me constantly, I would always tell him that his advances was not welcome and didn't want a relationship. Even sometimes he would force himself in my room. He went up on the rent; the rent was due on the first of every month. He gave me the notice on the 13th of that same month. I stayed for the full month and moved out the following month. He required a 2 weeks prior to moving out in order to refund me my deposit. I had to make sure that he wouldn't try to keep my things, so I gave him written notice that I would be moving. I moved out prior to the 2 weeks.I'm a student and couldn't afford to move out sooner. It's been 3 weeks I haven't received my deposit back. Help?

According to the Texas Property Code, a landlord has thirty days from the date of move-out to provide the security deposit to a former tenant with an itemized list of any deductions for damages to the premises caused by the tenant.

Make sure you have provided the landlord a written notice of your forwarding address to which to mail your depsoit (and keep a copy of it and note the date you gave it to the landlord). Until the landlord receives such notice, the 30 day time period in which the landlord must either refund your security deposit or provide you with a written explnation as to why he is withholding some or all of your security deposit does not start to run.
