Never received a notification for a court date

I got a speeding ticket a few months along w/a citation for not changing my address,(though i had only been at my new residency for 3 weeks and Texas law gives 30 days to update) I updated my DL the next day and scheduled both citations for a trial by jury. It has been a few months now and I got a letter the other day saying I had a court date 2 weeks ago that I never showed up for, I didn't show up because I never received any notification what so ever informing me that a date had been scheduled. I now have 2 failure to appear charges on top of the 2 original charges. The court insists they sent me a letter to my current address and now wants $500 bond per charge in order to let me see a judge. Is there any other way to see a judge w/out paying bond? What is my best course of action?

The best course of action under the circustances would be for you to contact a traffic attorney or criminal defense lawyer to represent you in this case. Your attorney could try to have the two (2) failure to appear charges dismissed since you did not receive adequate notification of the court date. Your lawyer could also try to have the legal determinations for original tickets set aside for the same reason that you did not receive notice for the trial date for those tickets. Juan C. If you can, you really should contact a local traffic ticket attorney. They can likely argue you never received notice of the hearing date and either reduce the FTAs or get them dismissed. It is important that you take affirmative action early to try and beat these. Many times traffic tickets in municipal court will be dismissed because the officer that wrote the ticket does not appear, or does not recall the situation clearly enough to testify regarding the facts. See my legal guide below for additional information. Good luck.

Your best course of action would be to hire an attorney to assist you at this point. Or you can go to the muncipal court and ask for a new court date. I'd be happy to talk to you. 512-472-8318
