Is there anyway I can avoid going to court since I fixed my burnt headlight that I got a ticket for?

So I am a doordash driver and I was driving to deliver food for a customer. My app crashed so I had no delivery address to deliver the food to. I pulled over into a empty parking lot and of course there were 5 police officers in the parking lot and I got a ticket for my headlight being out. Unfortunately for me I did not even know it was out, I must have burnt out earlier that day because from my knowledge that night it was working fine. This is my first ticket and I really do not want to go to court. I went to the Municipal court to talk to the court clerk because I had several people tell me to talk to a court clerk and they will write it off if I gave proof that I fixed my headlight. I did this and she told me that I would either have to pay or go to court. I really need to know if I can avoid going to court. I have plenty of proof that I fixed my headlight. I just do not know what to do. Please help me!

The clerk can’t clear you of any charges. The clerk can accept your payment without you going to court, but that is accepting guilt. If you wish to contest it, you will have to go to court, and it will be up to the judge. You will first go to court to plea guilty or not guilty. If you plea not guilty, you will likely be given a trial date a few weeks down the road. The judge will not entertain any arguments or excuses at this plea date. You can talk to the prosecutor, but it would behoove you to talk to an attorney first, so that you don’t incriminate yourself. You won’t have any advice here on , only general information. Therefore, it would be best to set up a consultation with an attorney.

You'll have to go to court to address this. It's not a big deal so don't stress too much. When you get there just ask to speak to the prosecutor. Ask him/her what is their normal procedure for this type of thing. They will tell you and then it will be resolved. Take a couple hundred dollars just in case they make you pay a fine, but usually it gets dropped. They may ask that you pay court costs though. Good luck.
