I think I hit someone's car without knowing
Anonymous1 views4 answers
When I got home and got out of my car to get my bag from the backseat, I saw my left corner bumper all scratched and there was two long deep scrapes. I was horrified and thought someone hit my car because I didn't feel anything, but when I looked at it carefully, I realized that it might be my fault because it was at the same area where I previously backed out and hit someones car. I haven't gotten a call from the police or anyone yet...how long would it take for the police to contact me if I hit a car? what do i do now?
Report the incident as suggested. However, to me it sounds as if the damnage was caused by someone hitting your vehicle. As you oud be on the left as the driver, I would think you would know instantly if you hit some one and had the damage you describe.
It's Probably a good idea to go to your local police department...just explain the situation and file a report regarding the incident so there's a record that you reported the incident.

I am licensed in Nevada, but this answer should apply in California as well.
I'm a little confused, did you leave a note or other information for the owner of the car you know you hit? If not, you failed in your duty to do so and should find the other car and/or driver if you can. You can still file a report with the local police advising of the accident so that the other driver can find you if there was damage to his/her car. There's not much more you can do about that at this point.
If you truly feel you were hit by another car, you can report that accident as a hit and run.
Hope this helps.
