No. There is no jail for consumer debts in the United States. The creditor has the right to send you to court hust in case you have any other assets that can be attached to pay for your debts. YOur salary is just one asset. You may own a boat, plane, car outright and that asset can be sold to satisfy the judgment. You may explore bankruptcy Chapter 7 if your bills and expenses exceed your income. Or if you have other business assets to protrct and you qualify you may opt for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection. God luck and write if you need further advice.

Creditors sue you to collect debts. In some states, if you fail to appear to answer questions about a debt, you can go to jail on a civil "contempt of court" charge, but that is very rare for someone who cooperates with the law, as I am sure you do. Hope this perspective helps!

No you will not go to jail. You can certainly show up and present your side of the story. It can't hurt and you may get the debt reduced for showing up (who knows). Most people in your situation don't show up and this turns into a civil judgment. You will not get in trouble for failing to appear. If you have any assets the judgment will attach to any assets you have if you have any.
