I recieved an SIS for stealing over 500. my probation length is 3 years. If i complete my probation with no problem, will my record be sealed? Who exactly will be able to see my record and What will my record say? AM i eligible for it being sealed since it was my first offense and have completed probation successfully?

This can be answered in two parts. First, you must understand that an SIS merely means that you plead guilty to the crime and if you successfully complete the SIS probation the stealing charge on your record will not be considered a conviction for purposes other than subsequent criminal prosecutions. Thus, if you complete your SIS probation you will not be considered a convicted felon for employment purposes and you can tell future employers that you have not been convicted of a felony. However, if you are ever charged with another crime the courts may use your prior plea of guilty against you in certain cases. Second, as far as your record being sealed, it will be and it won't be. If you complete your SIS probation the law says your record will become a closed record under the Sunshine Law, which is a complicated way of saying if you complete your SIS everyday people and potential employers will not be able to get a record of your stealing case. However, your record never really becomes sealed or closed anymore. These days people can always find stuff on the internet and through case.net in Missouri. Remember that your record will always be available to courts and law enforcement. Bottom line, you plead guilty to a felony, however if you complete the SIS the bonus is that you never have to tell everyday people or potential employers that you have a felony on your record. Hope this answers your question and good luck with probation.
