Will my severance package affect my eligibility to receive CA State Disability?

Business 3 views 1 answers
I was laid off. I am receiving 20 weeks severance package paid to me in payments. My doctor is putting me on State Disability. I am pregnant and unable to work or look for work. I am in the process of filling out my SDI form and it's asking if my employer is continuing to pay me, I am assuming this is YES, correct? My question is, will it affect how much disability will pay me or whether or not I will be eligible since I am being paid in payments? I think my employer will pay me same as if I were receiving checks here at work, every two weeks. Thank you.

If you are continuing to receive wages, even though it is severance, this could affect how much you may be able to receive from the state. But you will have to check with the EDD for a definitive answer. If it does, and they tell you, you cannot collect both, it may be wise to delay filing with the state until after the severance runs out.
