Just got into an accident - no tickets issued. How do insurance comp find who was at fault?

We both said we had a green light. There were no witnesses - only a possible intersection camera.

First of all, make sure you report it to your carrier. The carriers will interview their insured and determine what they feel occurred. If there are no witnesses and no other way to figure out what happened, they can do one of several things. A company may deny the claim completely, it may pay it completely, and it may pay a percentage. Your own carrier should pay for your property damage without a problem anyway regardless of fault. Go get your car estimated and repaired if the two companies are in a battle of "he said; she said" as these disputes often take a long time to resolve and are often resolved unsatisfactorily. If liability can't be determined by the insurance companies, the case may need to go to arbitration or court. Contact a good personal injury lawyer in your city to handle for you.

In addition to what was posted, insurance companies will advance their own best interest. It is the norm for insurance companies to manipulate, distort, twist, etc. facts. You may have to sue and/or retain an attorney.

Early investigation plays a very big role in finding out what happened. The first person that talks to a witness can have a great affect on what they remember. You need to protect your interests and talk to a lawyer that does this type of work where you live.
