Does infidelity play any role in custody determination?

It's my understanding that since California is a no-fault state, that my spouse's infidelity is completely irrelevant with regard to custody - so I was confused to read that Schwarzenneger's divorce could go badly for him because of his infidelity. Why is it different in his case?

First, there's a LOT of mis-information noised around whenever anyone famous gets in legal trouble. Infidelity, BY ITSELF is not relevant to custody determinations in California, but the facts of a PARTICULAR case may have some relevance. Also, to the extent that the facts about the former Gov's infideltity come out during his dissolution, it's going to mostly be BAD for his future income from endorsements, performance, etc.

His infidelity will not impact the divorce financially. As far as custody is concerned, courts will look at what is in best interests of children. Infidelity will show character, but might not impact custody at all. It might also go to his credibility.
