Traffic ticket question - the citation had the wrong date - do I have to take further action??

I received a speeding ticket in Flagstaff AZ on 6/2. The citation had a court date of 6/3 (the next day). I appeared at the court. The judge refused to see me saying that the police had not filed a complaint yet. I asked for a dismissal. The judge wrote that I should contact the court weekly until 8/2 since the police have 60 days to file a case. Am I responsible for their error - shouldn't they have to dismiss the case if they file it later?

You should appear because an error of that nature can be corrected by the police. Moreover, while you did the right thing by appearing a technicality of that nature will not be sufficient for an automatic dismissal. If you appear and plead not guilty many times the officer won't appear and you can get your ticket dismissed, or you can challenge it and try to negotiate either a dismissal or a reduced fine/charge. Good luck and consider hiring a ticket attorney that can do the legwork for you.
