Do I have the legal right to make someone leave?

My boyfriend’s acquaintance showed up here in the middle of the night with a trash bag of belongings and an order of protection that was filed against him by his on/off again girlfriend. This person is a gambling addict, a drug addict, and an alcoholic. These things combined with the allegations of abuse on the OP make me very uncomfortable. He brings out the worst in my boyfriend and encourages him to make bad decisions. My boyfriend won’t make him leave despite my requests. My question is whether or not I have the right to make this person leave our home? The house is in my boyfriend’s name, but some of the utilities are in my name. That is the only mail I receive here. The rest of my mail goes to my mom’s address.

Take a break and move in with your mom for a while until he shapes up.

Unfortunately, only the owner of the home has the right to bring an action for eviction or legal removal of an unwanted guest (called unlawful detainer). You, on the other hand, do not have to continue to live there. Not sure what boyfriend's financial situation is, but being faced with the choice of freeloading drinking buddy or live in partner who pays their share, can sometimes move the needle.
