How do I legally combat wrongful thinking

Purchase vehicle from another party out of state. Hired some one pick up and towed. Night of pickup tow truck brakes down. Informed other party and said that a friend will pick up instead. In agreemance to this, such friend was to pick up vehicle and take to me. Gave the proper documentation to show upon pickup, I'mm including insurance and bill of sale. On day of pickup, while waiting, friend notices police cars doesnt feel right and leaves. Convinced that I bought was tricked into buying a stolen car and was set up, I tell him to leave. Other party and friend have exchange of words and finally come to the understanding the police were not there for me. Final chance to meet was agreed. While waiting at another location, the other party shows up only to have police escort alongside. My friend almost gets arrested even though he shows the documentation. He was finally let go and without the car I bought because I wasnt there and could not be reached. The other party didnt even say a word to him and just takes off with my car. Can i sue or do something legally to combat what just happened? It doesnt seem right at all?
