Can I go to small claims court to get my dog back after the family who had him gave him to a rescue even though we had a written agreement that if they could not provide for him he would be returned to me? The lady who has him is not an actual rescue she is just withholding him.

If the shelter already has the dog, I seriously doubt a court would afford you that relief.

You can try, if your agreement complies with Iowa law. Some states do not allow restrictions on what the buyer may do with personal property that they bought, so that part of your agreement may be void.
