Caught Shoplifting @ Walmart

So I was caught shoplifting some trading cards, they took me to the room. They explained that maybe I would get a Civil Order in 4-6 weeks. There were no cops involved, I didn't have ID, but my guardian was with me. They photocopied their id and that was it. No signatures either.

Was there a question? Nothing improper there. The guardian did not have to provide their ID but since they did voluntarily then nothing improper.

From the facts you provide, it is likely that a Criminal Court case won't be filed against you. The store let you off the hook so to speak. It is likely that the store will send you a letter asking for money, a civil demand - what they apparently referred to as a "civil order." Don't worry about the letter from the store, if in fact the trading cards were returned/obtained by the store employee. If in fact the store reports the incident to law enforcement, the local Prosecuting agency could send you a letter notifying you of a Court Date and the fact that you have been charged with petty theft. Butt again, according to the facts as you present them, it appears they chose not to get law enforcement involved.

If they report the incident to the police you could be sent a notice in the mail for a future court date. But from the facts you provided it sounds unlikely that they would do this. Do not pay the civil demand letter. It will have no impact on if criminal charges are filed or not. It is just the store trying to extort money out of you.
