I was given an original contract which was basic and two weeks into my employment a new contract that stated if I don’t give a 4 week notice they will make me pay them $2,500 is this legal?

I don't know if you have any contract which somebody would have to review. But my reaction is that the request is just simply outrageous.

If you are salaried, then the answer may change but then if you are salaried, the reduction in hours should not mean a reduction in pay. So really need to discuss with an employment lawyer.
