I was harassed by an assistant manager while working at Home Depot. I left 2 accept another job. Could I have taken legal action

My assistant manager was rude, harassing, and enjoyed confrontation and humiliation of employees on a regular basis. I called the company aware line and complained. I was interviewed by corporate human resources and the manager was required to take a training class and apologize to me. I was offered another job shortly after and accepted. I worked out my two week notice and left. Now six months later I am laid off and HOme Depot is holding up my unemployment. I am angry because I did nothing wrong. Could I still take legal action against them for the harassment that occured? I have everything documented.
I, too, agree with Mr. Charlip's superb answer. Additionally, you really should meet with a labor law attorney immediately...the longer you wait, the more likely certain claims may be time-barred. I recommend that you contact your local state or county bar association for a referral to an attorney who may be able to assist you.
David and Mike are both right. You may have a case but you should see an employment lawyer right away. Call your local attorney bar association and ask for a referral to an employment law attorney. You may have to go to Akron or another nearby larger city to find one but don't wait too long, For every legal right you have, there is only a limited amount of time within which to file a claim or your rights expire. Some federal employment protection laws limit it to only 6 months, so act quickly.
