i was arrested with about 5 bags of heroin for personal use at the time, they arrested me and let me go 2 hours later telling me to go to court, i have a felony charge from about 6 years ago well selling weed but that was 6 years ago,i'm not on probation or parole or owe any money to fines. i've been clear of that charge about 3 years ago with probation and everything.it was my first charge , but my question is why would they let me go at the police station. and now that i have a warrant if i return to the us through ny will i be arrested at the airport , and also does nj have a certain amount of time to pick me up from ny or can they hold me as long as they want in ny? also if i get a lawyer will that help me not get arrested at the airport if he can arrange another court date?

In all likelihood, you will be arrested at the airport. You should contact a New Jersey criminal attorney to see if there is a way to have that warrant recalled and to get a new court date. Good luck.

Having a lawyer will not prevent what may or may not happen at the airport. Having a lawyer will assist you through the process in clearing up the warrant and navigating you through the remaining issues you have to deal with. A warrant is a warrant and it will not go away unless and until you clear it which means very likely that you will have to post some bail before being able to deal with the charges. John P.
