My sister had life insurance policies and we didnt know the names of the companies. How can we find out if she had any insurance policies upon her death 21 years ago. Is there a central system I could call and give her social number or a name and date of birth and find out what companies have her listed for issurance policies, so we can do a search and investigate if she did have life insurance, where did the check be sent to and who were the beneficiaries.
There is no central insurance policy system. However, unclaimed property, uncashed, and dormant accounts are supposed to be turned over to the state of Michigan. You can search the Michigan Department of Treasury at the link below. In fact, while I was looking up the link for you I searched my own name and found an uncashed check from an employer from over 10 years ago! So, thanks for the question!
