Can I sue someone for lying against me in a car accident

In 2018 I was the middle vehicle in a three-car accident. I was hit from behind and pushed into another car. there was road work going on and barricades moving traffic to the right lane. When the police officer arrived he took statements from car 1, that was in front of me and car 3, that hit me. car 1 stated in the police report that he heard tire squeal and felt one hit. Then he changed his story and claims he heard tire squeal in felt two hits, he claims there were two police officers and a person directing traffic.. none of this is true there was one police officer and no one was directing traffic and I have a traffic report to prove it, he has caused my case to be delayed and has caused me to not get a settlement and it's has cost me thousands of dollars,, can I sue him for lying and causing me all these problems?? if he would just tell the truth this case would have been over with a year ago.

No. There is no cause of action against a witness for giving a false statement to a police officer. That is a criminal offense, and it does not create a civil cause of action if a false statement is given.
