What personal information can a potential landlord legally require from me?

I am applying for a rental apartment. The apt manager gave me a application and told me I must fill it out completely. There are release of information forms the apt. Manager wants me to fill out that I am not comfortable with. One for my bank asking my account number, when it was opened, how much $ is in it, if I collect interest and how much, if a have a safe deposit box what is inside, and how much it is worth, if I have a IRA, stocks, or bonds, and their worth. Another is for my employer asking if I have a life insurance policy and how much its for, if I have a retirement fund and how much is in it, and how much I can withdraw without retiring. lf I have a medical plan who its through and how much the policy costs a month. Also if I have sold or given away any assets in the last 2 yrs, what they were and the value. Is the apt legally allowed to require this info? Are they legally allowed to deny my app. If I refuse to provide it.

I have changed the practice area to Landlord Tenant. The awesome attorneys in that area will be better able to guide than you than business attorneys that rarely practice in the area of consumer landlord/tenant. For my two cents, while I have never known a landlord to ask for such detailed financial information, almost all landlords inquire into a tenant's credit worthiness, and most pull a credit report for a prospective tenant (with a release, of course). I don't see anything unlawful about such a detailed inquiry. You are free look elsewhere to live. Good luck, stay safe, and be well!
