When does '30 days notice' actually begin and end

Unless they specifically state otherwise, you should assume that the 30 days started on the day the letter was created. Best of luck. Olaide Banks www/banks-attorneys.com

No lawyer can confidently answer this question without having examined the document which created the rights and relationship between you and this company. The phrasing of the notice provision would be key. Some are deliberately written to be keyed to the sending of notice, others deliberately keyed to the actual receipt of notice, and still others create a "constructive notice" that begins a specified number of days after notice is sent. This can, in fact, be a negotiated term that people fight about during contract formation before reaching a meeting of the minds. There are also some kinds of rights and remedies that may be affected by statutes which include notice provisions. There one would have to look at the particular statute involved. If you're trying to squeeze out another few days, and if the language of the notice provision isn't particularly clear, then I'd make your argument about the holidays -- an argument in favor of a later effective date for the notice -- to see if they'll agree with you on an effective date rather than both of you being uncertain about it.
