What do I do next?
Anonymous4 views4 answers
I was making a left hand turn onto freeway entrance. I heard a horn and looked in the mirror and saw a car to my right. I kept going onto the freeway. The woman that tooted the horn drove up beside me shaking her phone at me and ranting. I made motions like I'm sorry because my thinking was maybe I cut her off. She continued to follow behind me for the next 10-12 miles. When I got off the freeway she followed for a mile or so then disappeared. I was extremely afraid of her. I didn't know what to do. I was so thankful when she was gone.
The next day I found a hang tag on my door from the local police asking me to call them in regards to a vehicle crash!! I never touched her car!
I have not called the police as of now. I don't know what to do next?
Another important factor; I am 72 years old and live on a fixed income. I would only be able to pay a portion monthly.

If the police are involved, they are likely investigating a hit-skip. You should have somebody photograph your car (with date stamp) completely around. Immediately consult with a local criminal defense attorney, bring him/her the tag, and have them represent you.
Report the incident to your own insurance company (to put them on notice of a potential claim) and contact a lawyer near you for a free initial consultation.
I guess it sort of depends on what that hang tag says. It's hard for us to advise you without knowing what that says. I would recommend that you contact a local attorney to get advice, and perhaps have that attorney return the call for you. Based on your description, if you are certain that you were not involved in an accident, then I don't think you have anything to be worried about. Nevertheless, whenever the police get involved, it's a good idea to have an attorney on your side.
