Military Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) and a Divorce

According to the Air Force Instruction on SBP I can decline this SBP insurance during my third year of having it due to the reason of financial constraints (I can't afford it). Can the judge still order me to pay anyway? How can you pay for something you cannot afford. Please explain.

Military benefits are normally subject to state law division, with certain limitations. These issues are very complicated and you really should contact an attorney to advise you.

The judge can still order SBP or other insurance. The judge can also decide who is going to pay for it.
