hello i live in Maine in subsidized housing meaning my rent is paid by a voucher as i am considered mentally disabled and i am on ssi for my back and mental problems! for over 3 years now we have been perfect tenants! my landlord had his pot plants stolen and due to i live next door it must be us or our friends that didnt even know he was growing pot! not his scum bag friends! he has made false statements saying i have destroyed the lawn working on vehicles! which is a crock and i have proof! we painted the place with his permission 2 years ago and have had 2 housing inspections since then and he has lied and said we painted beyond the scope agreed by him and dogs he agreed we could have! all this stems from him being ripped off of his illegal pot plants!

It sounds like you haven't been evicted yet, so you cant sue him for "false eviction". In fact, in Maine there is no such thing as a "false eviction". If you get sued for FED and are taken to court, you either win, or he wins and that's it. I don't see any harassment as defined under Maine law, based upon what you have stated, and I also do not see any claim for defamation as you would have to show damages based upon the false statements, and that the false statements were made intentionally or recklessly. Unfortunately, your best bet is probably to simply try and find another place to live to avoid the situation you are in now. If he tries to evict you, you could and should contact Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Portland. www.PTLA.org for further information about your rights as a tenant.
