Tenant rights: Who in Hampton Roads will do a 30-minute consult and follow-up letter to my landlord for $100? (security deposit)

2 views 2 answers
I anticipate that my landlord will not return my security deposit because he will be displeased when he discovers that I have invited the city inspector to my residence to investigate multiple electrical/fire and carbon monoxide hazards. The landlord was notified in a timely manner of each of these hazards but only by telephone, not in writing. Some have been corrected and others have not. I am leaving the property for other reasons than these hazards. I have done no damage to the property. The inspector has not visited yet but I will be leaving town immediately after his inspection so I would like to do a preemptive consultation with a lawyer so that my circumstances are understood and the letter demanding my security deposit can be "turned on" with a simple phone call if necessary.

Any of a thousand lawyers would do that for you....we'll, lots of 'em anyway. Use the .com search option to locate one in Hampton.

The Virginia Lawyer Referral Service can also put you in touch with a local attorney who can assist you. The VLRS is run by the Virginia Bar and can be reached by calling (800) 552-7977. Otherwise, just search and make a few calls to local attorneys. Good luck.
