Sorry for your ordeal. You should obtain copies of your medical records and have them reviewed by a well qualified consulting physician so that a competent Medical Malpractice lawyer can determine if a meritorious case exists.

Your question does not indicate why the hemi-colectomy was needed after the colonoscopy. There are a number of reasons you might have needed the surgery, most of them having nothing to do with negligence on the part of your doctors. Likewise there are a lot of reasons for heart failure, most of them having to do with underlying medical conditions. Before you spend a lot of money ordering medical records, I suggest you call one or two good medical malpractice lawyers in your area and discuss the facts in more detail. If there seems to be a reasonable likelihood of a case, most medical malpractice lawyers will obtain the records for you. Such consultations are generally free.

Your posting is a little unclear about the "overdose" if you are trying to say that you received an overdose of narcotics during surgery, of course, that would be negligent; however, it probably would not lead to a successful lawsuit on the basis of medical malpractice. That is because in order to have a "successful" lawsuit, you have to recover more money than you spend. That means you have to have really serious damages from the alleged negligence because, of course, it is compensating you for your "damages" that is the purpose of a monetary award in a lawsuit. Money is not usually awarded because of the negligence itself, only because of the damage actually caused by the negligence. Consequently, sometimes people can get away with doing really negligent things--things that COULD have had really bad results, but didn't. So, even if you had an overdose of narcotics and it could have killed you, it didn't and there's not likely to be a lawsuit on this issue. As for your other issues, a lot more information is needed to determine whether there was negligence, and if so, were any damages directly caused by the negligence. You should speak with a local medical malpractice attorney to get more information. Good luck!
