Ye who attempts a custody battle pro se has a fool for a client. I don't say this to be mean, I'm a frank person - If you can't afford it, contact legal aid. Here's a short list: Chicago Bar Association, Cabrini Green Legal Aid, and Legal Assistance Foundation - in addition, your district bar association may also run a help desk at the courthouse you have your case in. And, last resort, contact the legal aid clinics at any of the area law schools (Depaul, John Marshal, Northwestern, University of Illinois, Northern Illinois, Loyola, IIT, etc.). Your judge may also have a list of attorney's who take cases below our usual "Arm & a Leg" rates. Take advantage of it. Best of luck and hope this helps.

A lawyer needs to know more facts before he or she can answer your question properly. However, and all things being equal, you seem to be in the driver's seat because the court tries to maintain the status quo of where the children reside.
