Who is responsible for the alley if one side is business and the other is residential? Or city

The City is probably in charge of the alley, but call the Dept. of Public Works to make a pothole complaint and see if it acknowledges its responsibilty for the alley. However, to answer who is liable, it might be no one. Alleys notoriously have potholes, broken pavement and are not as well maintained as boulevards, streets and expressways. Depending on the circumstances of your fall, a jury might conclude that you are responsible for your own injuries.

It is probably a city-maintained alley. The only way to know for sure is to call the city. If it is the city, you only have 6 months to make a claim. Bottom line: you should call one of us on here for a free consultation.
