My 17 year old son has just been charged with a DUI in Ohio. Please let me know what we should expect to happen.

he was given a breath test twice. the fisrt one was under the leagal limit and the second one was right at it. We were not notified until after he had this done. He has never been in any trouble before.
We were told that he will loose his license until he is 18 and he will have to do community service. I was also told if he did the community service when he turns 18 this will no longer be on his record. What will the cost be for his auto insurance once he gets his license back?
While I don't practice in your state, the fact is that insurance companies will not only take any safe driver reduction away, they will add on a surcharge for at least 3-5 years after any conviction. The amounts vary from state to state and company to company, so its best that you check anonymously with your company.
There may be some opportunity to mitigate his punishment if there is a diversion program. In many states, there are programs for underage first offenders of this nature that allow them to do community service, etc. and eventually their charges are dismissed. Check into it with your lawyer and if he/she doesn't know about it check with the public defender's office since they may be more familiar with it, if it exists at all.
Good luck.
