The individual is an 80 year old man who just had a quadruple bipass. He was arrested for DUI and taken into custody. While in custody he was beaten so severely that he had to be rushed to the hospital. What legal remedies are available to him against the city?

Consult a Personal Injury Attorney who handles claims vs. governmental entities. Possibly negligence of some sort. http://www.SanDiegoDUI.com

If he has a viable case against the city then there is possibly many claims that this person can bring against the defendant(s). It would be advisable at this point to consult with a personal injury attorney that has a proven track record against cities and municipalities.

Possible "1983" Action depending on which government agency (Federal Gov) had the man in custody; also there may be other possible actions. The man will need to contact an attorney that specializes in these types of actions against the government (injury while in custody). You will have to do some searching, but there are lawyers that do the majority of their practice in this area.
