How can I find a lawyer who may specialize in QDRO for FERS & a TSP (federal pension and federal Thrift Savings Plan)?

The lawyer doesn't have to specialize in only doing QDROs, but is well versed since different plans require different language to make them acceptable to the various plans.

There are many very well qualified attorneys listed on 's site and you can check out their specialties, client reviews, and peer reviews. You can also check with your local Bar Association. Most Bar Associations have a lawyer referral service available.
Quite honestly, I don;t know of any experienced family lawyers who have not dealt with QDRO's though a variety of different employers: Microsoft, Boieng, FAA, Military. It's part and parcel of dissolution practice and poses no real impediment to resolution of the financial issues arising from a final order. In the past 20 years, I have dealt wiht both Federal and State pension plans and I would argue that most family law attorneys with my experience have done the same.
Hope this helps
Almost all of the family law lawyers that have any level of experience handle these matters. However, some hate it. There are a couple of attorneys that specialize in this type of law. I have never used them and do not know anything about it - other than I have been told by the occasional client that they hired them. One such example is http://qdro-law.com. I do not endorse them or know them, but there you go. If you are in Federal Way, there are any number of family law attorneys that can do it for you. TSP is a very common Boeing perk and so a lot of Kent and Renton attorneys will have done it regularly. The others are even more common.
One reason that attorneys may not like them is that it can take some time to get them entered. Our firm will typically charge about $500.00 to get those orders prepared, approved, and then entered by the court.
