While,I was married only one month before my wife left to go back home to a foreign country. She file a divorce package with a non-lawyer. The guy who did the paperwork made mistakes. He did the paperwork in June 2007. He wanted more money from her. I want to finish this divorce.

Only the Clerk's office in the matrimonial section of supreme court can tell you if the old index number can no longer be used. Whether or not it is still valid you, or the attorney of your choice, will have to complete the paperwork necessary to finalize the action. Feel free to contact my office if you need further information. Good luck.

Your first place to start is to file a Notice of Appearance in the pending action. The services that often mishandle uncontested divorces leave it to the practicing matrimonial bar to clean up their mistakes. You may be able to file an answer and counterclaim so that you can go forward on a counterclaim to get a divorce. You need an experienced divorce attorney at your side to make sure that the papers are done correctly. May of the rules changed since 2007. Consult a practicing matrimonial attorney. You will need a method to serve the remaining several sets of papers on your spouse.
