Can your parents take your money if you're a minor?

I'm 16 years old and I have a savings account with over $1000 of money that I've earned on my own. My parents think they can control me by not letting me save my money. I tell them that it's my money and I can save it if I want. Then they said they can take away my money from my bank account if they want. Can they legally do this?

The money that you earn from your employment is your money. If you are having a dispute with your parents, you need to have a candid, honest dialogue about what's really going on. Why are you working? Are you contributing to your household? Have your parents asked you to do so and have you refused? Are you saving for a particular purpose? Do they approve or disapprove of the fact that you are working? Is it affecting your schoolwork? Talk to them.
