Hello, If your U visa (and I-192 waiver, if needed) are approved, then you and any derivative family members also approved who applied for work permits should receive them. My clients with U visa cases usually get their work permits a little bit before we receive the notices of the U visa approvals. However, I am not aware of any U visa clients receiving work permits until the Vermont Service Center actually approves the U visa applications. The U visa processing time can vary, but usually averages between 8 months and one year from the time of filing the application. Do you have a lawyer for your court case? If not, you may wish to try to find one to help you get the hearing continued. Usually, it is possible to continue the hearings when there is evidence of a valid pending U visa application, and if the U visa is approved, then the court proceedings can be terminated (stopped). For help finding a lawyer if you need one, you can search here on , at www.aila.org, or www.ImmigrationLawHelp.org, or http://www.justice.gov/eoir/probono/states.htm. Best wishes, Jennifer

You should contact a legal service provider and ask for an explanation of the U visa process and the effects on the Immigration Court Case. The legal services agency has access to a system that they can provide you with translation into most languages. (you need to tell them when you start that you wish assistance in a specific language). Good luck.
