Is illegal to get married on J1 visa?

Can I get married on J1 visa and apply for U.S. citizenship before my J1 visa will expire and do not have to leave the USA? My boyfriend is U.S. citizen and I am from Europe. My visa do not say "two-year home country physical presence requirement". Is this considered illegal?

This is not illegal at all. Just because your visa does not state that, does not mean you are not subject to the requirement. Look at your DS 2019 as well Consult an immigration attorney If you "like: this answer, please visit our website www.immigrate2usa.com

Being on J-1 has nothing to do with whether or not your can get married. Whether you can legally get married depends on whether you or your fiancee are currently married, and on whether you meet the requirements for marriage at the location where the marriage takes place.

I agree with my colleagues. Although it states two year home country physical presence requirement, that does not mean it does not apply. Consult with an immigration attorney who can request an advisory opinion. Good luck.

You can marry your boyfriend and he can sponsor you for a green card. However, you will need to apply for a waiver of the two-year home residency requirement. Please see
