Although HIPAA will not provide a means for private individuals to sue others, it does allow the federal government to investigate and take action against the secretary's former employer. There are literally thousands of website available to help with filing a HIPPA complaint. However, you may you may be able to take civil action for slander or invasion of privacy. Slander would be a false verbal statement told to other people that harms your reputation. As for privacy, you may have a claim for divulging information of a personal nature that others would fiind highly offensive if made public. If the impact of this incident is affecting you personally or professionally, then you should consider consulting an attorney. An attoney will review the facts of your case and be able to better anticipate your needs and any remedies that may be made available.

You may want to contact your state's Department of Health. They typically enforce actions against doctors. Georgia's Department of Health website is http://health.state.ga.us/.
