Background check

The State Police is usually the most thorough and complete background check unless a background information gathering service has accessed individual courthouse or magisterial records which may show dispositions that were not reported by the arresting police agency to the Pennsylvania State police. It might also be possible that you were never fingerprinted for the offense which is not showing, or if you were, it is possible that your fingerprint cards or the arrest itself was never properly reported by the arresting police department which then resulted in this omission. You may want to seek an expungement of your summary offenses by filing an expungement request in the Court of Common Pleas where the conviction was entered. Back on November 26, 2008, former Governor Rendell singed into law House Bill 1543, now Act 134 of 2008 which allows persons convicted of a summary offense only to request the record be expunged after a 5 year waiting period following the conviction (usually the date of payment of your fines and costs). You can contact any number of investigators that will run a background check for you, but ultimately the information all comes from the same place. Usually costs around 25-30 dollars per record plus the fee charged by the state.
