I am on 2 years student visa.I applied for Asylum recently from San Jose and I was called for the interview on jan 18th.But during my interview, I was told by the officer that my case will be transferred to Chicago as the university in which I study belong to that zone. It's been a month since then and I haven't received any interview dates from the Chicago office.I am confused as to what should I do to see my case status( which can be seen on the website).Should I wait for the letter to come or should I send a whole new set of application as did earlier?? Please do help!

I also recommend that you get an immigration attorney experienced with asylum law to help you. Asylum is very complicated and the cards are really stacked against receiving asylum. Keep in mind that it is much better to win your case at the interview than losing and going to court. Also, your interview creates a record that will influence any hearings you may have in the future in Immigration Court. (If one is in status and does not receive asylum, the asylum office typically administratively closes the case and does not transfer to Immigration Court). Unfortunately, it will take Chicago sometime to schedule an interview. One month is not excessive for delay. You must comply with USCIS requirements for address changes. Be sure that USCIS has your current address. You must file within 10 days of moving. I have handled many different types of asylum cases from all over the world. I am available for consultation by SKYPE or telephone.

I highly recommend that you retain a well qualified AILA immgration attorney to represent you in the asylum process. Asylum is an extremely complex area of law and those without knowledgeable representation are very often denied. An immigration attorney will also be able to determine the status of your case and should be able to assist you in the next step. Again I highly recommend anyone applying for asylum to retain an experienced and well qualified immigration attorney.

You really need to retain an experienced immigration lawyer to review all the facts, advise you, and handle the case.

It is best that you hire a competent and experienced immigration attorney to supplement your asylum application, file an inquiry at the Chicago Asylum Office, and appear with you at the asylum hearing. Our office is located in Chicago should you want competent and experienced counsel to handle your asylum. You can also look at some of the other listings for Chicago Immigration attorneys on .com. If you are denied asylum at the Chicago Asylum Office, and are out of status, then you can be referred to the Chicago Immigration Court for deportation. However, you can renew your asylum case at that time, as well.
