Could my parents be sued for an accident I get into?

2 views 4 answers
I'm 21 and still live at home with my parents. They still claim me as a dependent. I recently bought at motorcycle and have insurance for it in my name. My parents are refusing to let me ride it because they think if I hit someone or have an accident, they could be sued for everything they have. How is that possible or is it even possible?

Your parents could not be sued if you are in an accident and the vehicle is listed in your name in virtually all situations. There may be some unique patternsuch as if you had been drinking prior to the accident with liquor your parents provided to you in unreasonable amounts.... but that is an extreme example http://www.phillyinjurylawyer.com/

As long as your parents are not titled owners of the motorcycle, they will probably never have any liability regarding an accident you may cause. You buy insurance to protect yourself from this type of claim anyway. Since your parents have no connection to the motorcycle, they would not be brought into any suit.
