Can an apartment complex require you to have a $100,000.00 liability insurance policy on your apartment in the middle of a lease

The lease does not state we must carry liability insurance. The aparment complex has notified a few residents in the area that a $100,000.00 liability policy is required to stay in their lease. Shouldn't the apartment complex's liability insurance cover the apartments unless myself or a resident causes injury or damage to property in my apartment?

Since this proviso was not part of the initial lease agreement, you are certainly entitle to not renew the lease with the apartment complex.
