Will an out of state drivers liscense suspension also be valid in my home state?

I had recently recieved a speeding ticket in Kenosha Wisconsin for going 95 in a 65. (30 MPH over which was a 325 dollar fine, 6 points on my liscense and a 15 day suspension. I currently live in Niles Illionis, pretty much Chicago and was wondering how the points and suspension will carry over to my home state of Illinois.

If you are driving on a WI license, it won't be valid in IL during the suspension. If you are driving on what I assume is an IL license, and if WI reports the conviction to IL, they might even if they aren't a Compact State, they may not even if they are, but if they do, it will go on your IL record as a moving violation. IL does not use a points system for determine whether or not a suspension is imposed. The points only matter if you commit an offense that requires a suspension or revocation (this one does not) or if it is one in a series of offenses that cause suspension (for instance if you are over 21 and have 3 moving violation in a year, you are subject to a suspension). The total points would determine the length of your suspension.

Illinois does not have points accrual on its driving privileges. Since the above states are within the reporting state system the Secretary of States of Illinois will learn of your Wisconsin suspension which will affect your Illinois driver's license if you are stopped driving during a suspension for a moving violation. However, within the same 12 months period you may receive only two supervisions. Also, during one 12 months period three moving violations will trigger a 30 day suspension of your driving privileges in Illinois. If you encounter further legal problems contact a traffic attorney in the respective state.

You must change your license to Illinois if you live here. You must turn in a valid out of state license to get an Illinois license. If the suspension period is over, and you have paid any required reinstatement fee, you should be able to trade in the license.Sincerely, Attorney Mitchell S. Sexner Mitchell S.
