The hardest part of being a lawyer is the balancing of your work life and your family life. Depending on the type of firm, type of law, or experience level, your legal career demands an enormous amount of your time. It is important that you establish a good balance of providing for your clients or firms needs with the needs of your family and friends. A professor I had in law school once told the class that he works long hours during the week so that he can be at home with his family on the weekends. This was coming from an attorney that had been practicing for some time. Lawyers starting out may and will most likely be expected to put in both night and weekend hours to handle their case load. Once the balance is reached, it may get easier, but it will always be something a lawyer will struggle with, especially when they may be home physically, but mentally they are still at the office.

I agree with my colleagues re. the prep before becoming a lawyer being difficult but once you have passed all of your exams, the hardest part of the actual practice of law is probably the time consuming nature of the job. Time management is an essential skill every lawyer needs to use daily in order to properly get through all of our demanding tasks involved in case management of our cases while at the same time making sure we remain knowledgeable of new case law and statutory law that can/will affect our cases. Moreover, we need to keep up with our continuing legal education credits and make sure we abide by the court deadlines. In addition, we need to find time for networking and our families:)
"The most hard part of being a lawyer [sic]" is all the years of school and tests. You have to finish elementary school, middle school and high school. You then have to get admitted (picked) to go on to college for usually 4 years. You again have to get admitted (picked) to attend law school. After all the tests in school K-12 and college and in law school, you have to take one last test that can last two days. Then if you pass you get to go be a lawyer. Since there are many kinds of lawyers who do many kids of things you usually have more things to learn while you decide what you like to do and what you are good at doing as a lawyer.
